On Monday Texas State Representative Joe Moody (D–El Paso) introduced a bill that would reduce the penalties for those found in possession of small amounts of cannabis. Moody’s bill would remove arrest, jail time, and a criminal record as punishment for possession of up to one ounce of cannabis. Texans found with up to an ounce would instead receive a civil fine of $100. Rep. Moody’s announcement was was supported by ACLU of Texas, Republicans Against Marijuana Prohibition, and the Marijuana Policy Project.
