On Friday afternoon Harris County District Attorney Devon Anderson announced that her office would allocate $1.9 million towards the purchase of body cameras for Houston area police officers. The plan calls for $1 million for the Houston Police Department and $900,000 for the Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputies in the patrol division. The Houston Police Department recently launched a pilot program testing out 100 cameras on police officers. The department says it will launch the first new cameras in November 2015. The Sheriff’s Department stated that they would begin testing equipment within 90 days.
