On Tuesday a Texas district judge ruled that a lawsuit against Houston’s Equal Rights Ordinance will go to a jury trial. The ordinance was approved in May by City Council. The new measure prohibits discrimination in housing, city employment, and city contracting among public businesses and private firms with more than 25 employees. Critics of the ordinance say it would force business to allow transgender residents into the men and women’s bathrooms. Opponents say that City Attorney David Feldman incorrectly invalidated thousands of petition pages for alleged notary errors. The trial will begin on January 20.
