In response to the recent destruction caused by Tornadoes in Oklahoma, an alliance of community members have come together to launch Operation: OK Community Aid. Activist community The Houston Free Thinkers have been collecting supplies for those in need in anticipation of heading to Oklahoma on the morning of Thursday May 30th. The group is communicating with volunteers in Oklahoma to coordinate the best effort possible. The goal is to go directly to those affected by these tragedies and help them first hand. The effort will focus on Moore, Oklahoma and other towns that have not received media coverage or help thus far.
Operation: OK Community Aid was inspired by the recent efforts of “Occupy Sandy”, and the Common Ground Collective, which gained national acclaim after organizing relief efforts for victims of Hurricane Katrina. The Common Ground Collective bypassed and outperformed the Federal Emergency Management Agency, leading a whole new generation to discover the principles of mutual aid and community driven grassroots support.
