Police in Fort Worth, Texas have purchased body cameras that can be attached to uniform collars or the side of eyeglasses. Fort Worth PD state that the cameras are intended to settle disputes between police and residents who believe that they have been unfairly treated or arrested. Recorded images will be uploaded to the Internet-based Evidence.com storage system and officers cannot edit or alter the data. Residents may obtain copies of the footage through open-records requests. The department began testing the cameras in May 2012 and has hopes to equip 60 to 75 percent of the 700 patrol officers with the devices. The cost for the cameras is around $670,000. The Department says the funding for the program comes from money seized by drug dealers.
