In the latest tragic shooting involving a family pet, an off duty Houston Police Department officer shot a boxer, Gunner, in the neck. The shooting took place on July 5th in the suburb of Cypress. The police officer released a statement claiming that the dog charged and attacked him, his wife and one of their dogs. He states that the injuries were documented by the Precint 4 Constables Office. The dog’s owners, Kevin and Kimberly Fitzhenry, say the officer is fabricating the injuries and that Gunner only ran over to one of the officer’s dogs to smell it. Despite the officers claims, the Fitzhenry’s state that their children and friends were in close proximity to the shooting. The pet died shortly after in front of the family. The Precinct 4 Constable’s Office and HPD Internal Affairs are investigating the incident.
